  • Eagles beat Trinity behind...

HEBRON ESTATES - It was a short week for the North Bullitt Eagles, but  there was a huge victory as the green and gold turned back top-25 power Trinity by a 4-3 score on Wednesday.

A day later, the outcome was not as positive as the Eagles traveled to North Oldham and lost to the Mustangs 8-1.

  • BE baseball is hot again with...

MOUNT WASHINGTON - Once again, the Bullitt East Chargers came out of playing in the Louisville Invitational Tournament on a hot streak.

A year ago, the red and gold lost a game in that event and then did not lose again until the final of the Sixth Region Tournament, a mark of 14 straight wins.

This season, Bullitt East lost twice the previous week in the LIT and then won four straight games last week including a 12-0 victory over Western Hills on Thursday, a team that has beaten Pleasure Ridge Park this year.

  • Southern blasts past BE

MOUNT WASHINGTON -- A good start to the week turned sour for the Bullitt East Lady Chargers heading into a short break over Derby weekend.

Bullitt East started the week with a 7-0 victory over Sixth Region rival Holy Cross, but then ran into some trouble. At South Oldham, the Lady Chargers were mowed down by a strong pitcher and lost 1-0. Then on Thursday in an important district game in the seeding process, the Lady Chargers were undone by a long home run in a 7-4 loss to Southern.

  • Charger Challenge has four top...

MOUNT WASHINGTON - Three of the top teams in Kentucky high school baseball will join Bullitt East this weekend for the Charger Challenge.

This will be a round-robin showcase type of event. There will be no champion crowned.

Bullitt East will take on Trinity at 5 p.m. on Friday and then Lexington Catholic will face Harrison County at 7:30 p.m.

  • North reschedules Southern to...

HEBRON ESTATES - Rain on Monday meant that the North Bullitt Eagles will have to wait a week before getting a chance to claim the top seed for the upcoming 24th District Tournament.

Already 3-0 in the five-team district race, the Eagles were supposed to close out district play with a game against Southern. Unfortunately, rain cancelled that game. The game at North Bullitt will now be played next Wednesday, May 6, at 5 p.m.

  • East's teams are the ones...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - A defending state champion and a number of individuals with that goal very much in mind will be in action on Tuesday at the All-Bullitt County Track and Field Championships at Bullitt East.

This should be one of the better-attended county championships as with the exception of the Bullitt Central boys’ team, all of the squads should have a double-digit size list of entries.

  • East starts strong, then fades...

MOUNT WASHINGTON - The week started a day late, but the Bullitt East Chargers got off to a quick start, recording three straight shut-outs including wins over Bullitt Central and then Male.

Unfortunately, after the 1-0 decision over Male in the Louisville Invitational Tournament, the Chargers dropped two straight games, falling to Elizabethtown, 3-2, and West Jessamine 4-2.

The 3-2 mark for the week left Bullitt East with a 15-6 record.

  • Offense a no-show for Central...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - For most of last week, the Bullitt Central Cougars struggled to score runs. When they did finally generate some offense, the pitching sagged.

Put those two things together and it led to a 0-4 week for the maroon and gray.

The first game was a 10-0 loss to Bullitt East in a district game that was pushed back a day. On Tuesday, coach Tommy Alvey’s team was no match for the Chargers (see additional information for this game in the story to the left), falling behind 3-0 after three innings.

  • PERFECT! NB's Wagner...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - Up until the start of his senior season, North Bullitt’s Matt Wagner had great stuff on the mound, but he couldn’t always find the plate.

Now, Wagner has worked out the control problems and he is suddenly one of the best pitchers in the area. That was obvious on Wednesday when he threw the first perfect game in North Bullitt baseball history as the Eagles slipped past Bullitt Central 1-0.

Earlier in the season he had combined on a no-hitter with Cody Adkins in a  win over Beth Haven.

  • Lady Eagles have an up and down...

HEBRON ESTATES -- It was a mixed bag of results for the North Bullitt Lady Eagles as they split four games.

Obviously, the biggest game of the week was the showdown with Bullitt East on Wednesday in Mount Washington. That one went into extra innings before the Lady Chargers won 5-4 (see story above).

North Bullitt had tuned up for that game with a 14-0 victory over Seneca. After playing Bullitt East, the Lady Eagles took out their frustrations with a much easier than expected 16-0 victory over Southern in a rematch of last year’s 24th District championship contest.
