  • Cards tough loss ended Alphin’s...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – It wasn’t exactly the way that Brandon Alphin thought his career would unfold as a baseball player at the University of Louisville, but the Cardinal senior from Mount Washington and Bullitt East High School had a memorable five years with the Cardinals.

Unfortunately, Alphin suffered a serious arm injury early in his career in coach Dan McDonald’s program and had Tommy John surgery. That led to one full year out of baseball before he returned to the team and pitched sparingly over the past two seasons.

  • Girls’ hoops camps at BC and NB

Fun was the name of the game last week as both the Bullitt Central and North Bullitt girls’ basketball programs conducted summer camps for some of their future players.

There was plenty of fundamental work that got done as the young players worked with both the coaching staffs as well as learning from some of the varsity team members about what it takes to become a high school basketball player.

  • Dunnavan takes shooting touch to...

HEBRON ESTATES--The recruiting process turned out to be pretty simple for North Bullitt standout Ricky Dunnavan as he quickly found the right landing spot with Greenville College in Greenville, Illinois.

The four year school is an NCAA Division III program that plays in the St. Louis Area Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the same conference as Spalding University in Louisville.

In fact, the only other school that Dunnavan considered was Spalding.

  • Ewell looking to improve skills...

HEBRON ESTATES-- North Bullitt senior Ryan Ewell is not a basketball superstar, but he loves the game and he wasn't quite ready to step away from the game that he loves.
That is why when Eagle teammate Ricky Dunnavan told his pal that he was going to sign with Greenville College in Greenville, Illinois, that the dream of continuing to play basketball resurfaced. Dunnavan mentioned Ewell to Greenville head coach George Baker and the coach made a phone call.

  • Spring post-season honors...

SHEPHERDSVILLE-- The honors continue to roll in for area baseball and softball players after a successful spring campaign.
Leading the news last week was the announcement that North Bullitt junior third baseman Logan Wyatt had been named to the All-State team by the Kentucky High School Baseball Coaches Association.

  • Carolina rig perfect for post...

FRANKFORT, Ky. – The calendar said June 1, but the cold northeast wind, chilly rain and leaden skies seemed more like a bad day on the opening weekend of the April Keeneland meet.

June finally arrived in Kentucky this week and water temperatures in lakes across the state inched their way up toward the high 70s.

“Black bass are in post spawn now,” said Jeff Ross, assistant director of fisheries for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. “They should be completely done with spawning.”

  • Baseball continues to find...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – If you haven’t been keeping track, I can certainly tell you without hesitation that Bullitt County has been playing some pretty good baseball over the past decade or so.

Of course, North Bullitt is coming off back-to-back Sixth Region titles and the Eagles will certainly be one of the favorites when the spring season rolls around in nine months or so. Coach Brian Wise’s program has reached the semi-finals and quarter-finals of the Kentucky State Baseball Tournament at the end of the past two seasons.

  • NB’s Burton gets late call to...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – The son of a coach wants to coach.

That is what North Bullitt senior Zack Burton wants for his future, but first there are still a few more football games to be played.

When the Eagles’ season ended with the first round play-off loss to Grayson County in November, Burton felt that he had played in his final football game. But then at the last minute of the recruiting process, Campbellsville jumped into the picture and suddenly Burton had a new option for his immediate future.

  • NB’s Ellis set to play hoops at...

HEBRON ESTATES – The pipeline of North Bullitt athletes to Spalding University continued recently when Eagle basketball standout Dominique Ellis threw his hat into the ring to play for the Golden Eagles one county north in Louisville.

Ellis will rejoin with former North Bullitt standout Brandon Goeing who will be a senior with Spalding in the winter. Ellis and Goeing were teammates with the Eagles during the 2011-2012 season with the Eagles.

  • Highlands ends Eagles'...

LEXINGTON -- Baseball is a game of inches.

Sometimes the plays go in your favor. Sometimes they do not.

On Wednesday evening, the second magical season for the North Bullitt Eagles came to a close. This time, in the quarterfinals of the Rawlings KHSAA State Baseball Tournament.
