  • Second half breakdowns cost East...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – You can never have a big enough lead at halftime.

That was the story for the Bullitt East Chargers on Wednesday in the opening round of the Boys’ 24th District Tournament. The red and gold were up 38-29, but had left points on the court.

  • North, Central play well but can...

HEBRON ESTATES – Seldom will you have two coaches who are so upbeat after suffering season-ending tournament losses.

But that was the case on Wednesday as a pair of outmanned teams gave the victors all they wanted.

In the semifinal opener of the 23rd District boys’ basketball tournament, Bullitt Central fell to the top-seeded Moore Mustangs 68-48.

And, in the nightcap, North Bullitt fell to Southern 64-53.

  • UPDATE: Sixth Region draw works...

UPDATE (Tuesday, Feb. 28): On Wednesday at Valley High School, one Bullitt County high school basketball team will remain alive in the post-season.

Bullitt East will face North Bullitt in the second round of the 2017 Sixth Region Girls' Basketball Tournament following big first-round wins at home.

The Lady Chargers won 93-27 over Doss, while the Lady Eagles earned an equally impressive 81-37 victory over Fairdale.

  • Lady Eagles have more than...

HEBRON ESTATES – For the sixth straight year, the North Bullitt Lady Eagles took home the 23rd District basketball championship.

For Bellarmine University signee Lauren Deel, her fourth consecutive title is sweet.

But, losing a number of seniors last spring, Deel admitted that she had just a little bit of concern about this season.

Worry no more as North Bullitt goes into the first round of the Sixth Region tournament tonight sporting a 25-7 record.

  • Big fourth quarter lifts East...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – The Mercy Jaguars seem to bring out the best from Bullitt East in the fourth quarter.

For the second time this season, the two Sixth Region powers slugged it out and for the second time the Lady Chargers rallied at the end to claim the win.

On Thursday, it was a 75-69 victory in the championship game of the Girls’ 24th District Tournament. It was a second straight district title for the Lady Chargers after four straight titles for Mercy, beating Bullitt East each time.

  • On the Mark

Bullitt East graduate Morgan Vaughn is excelling with the Union College archery team.

The 2016 graduate won a gold medal in the National 3D Archery tournament in October.

Most recently, he traveled to Las Vegas to compete in the USCA National Indoor Championships with the Bulldogs.

Morgan is the son of Steve and Missy Vaughn.

  • Local wrestlers just can’t find...

LEXINGTON – After a strong showing in the Region Three Wrestling Championships a week earlier that saw 13 Bullitt County competitors advance to the Kentucky State Wrestling Championships, the good fortune melted away last week as no wrestler reached the podium, signifying a top eight finish.

At the local level, reaching the podium is a powerful goal. A handful of Bullitt Central wrestlers have reached that level over the past dozen years, but it has eluded any wrestlers from either Bullitt East or North Bullitt.

  • NB’s Brown set for ‘air raid’ at...

HEBRON ESTATES – When it comes to football, North Bullitt senior Andrew Brown loves the passing game.

It helps a lot that the Eagle signal caller the past two seasons has the arm to go with his fondness for throwing the ball.

With that at the forefront, Brown had no trouble falling for the ‘air raid’ style of offense used at Kentucky Christian University in Grayson, about 20 miles west of Ashland.

In the end, Brown made the decision to attend Kentucky Christian after giving a lot of consideration to Kentucky Wesleyan.
