MOUNT WASHINGTON - North Bullitt faced a tough draw in the 8th Region volleyball tournament at Bullitt East.

The Eagles faced district winning Oldham County on Tuesday evening.

The Lady Colonels defeated North Bullitt 25-14, 25-18.

The semifinal matches on Wednesday will match North Oldham versus Anderson County at 6:30 p.m. and Oldham County against Shelby County at 7:45 p.m.

The final at Bullitt East will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday night.

The host team, Bullitt East, lost on Monday night to North Oldham.

  • Bullitt East starts fast in...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - The Bullitt East Chargers finished off its fifth straight district volleyball title in convincing form Thursday night.

By virtue of winning the 27th District title, the Chargers will have the opportunity to host the Eighth Region tournament, starting on Monday in Mount Washington.

The 25-11, 25-15 victory over North Bullitt should send Bullitt East into the regional tournament as one of the teams to beat.

“We played well as a team,” said Charger coach Michelle Gajdik. “We were ready to play.”

  • Depleted Lady Eagles put up a...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – It wasn’t exactly the way that first-year North Bullitt volleyball coach Jeanette Pryor had envisioned the last game of the season.

Still, despite playing with a depleted roster in the first round of the Eighth Region Tournament at Bullitt East last Tuesday, Pryor was proud of the way her team played before falling 25-14, 25-18 to tournament favorite Oldham County.

  • Unbeaten North Oldham next for 7...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - ‘Time heals all wounds’ is the old saying.

In football, it is more like ‘time heals bad football programs.’ Just ask Bullitt Central and North Oldham.

When the two schools met for the first time on the football field in 2005, the two programs combined to win just three games. One of those few wins was North Oldham’s 21-14 victory over the Cougars.

  • BE back in action at LaRue

HODGENVILLE - After a week to catch their breath and solidify some of the major changes that the offense has gone through over the past few weeks, the Bullitt East Chargers will be back in action on Friday against district rival LaRue County.

This is an important game for the red and golf for a number of reasons, but the district standings are not among those things. Bullitt East has already wrapped up the number one seed for the Class 4-A play-offs while LaRue County is locked into the number four spot no matter what happens this week.

  • Lots of questions remain to be...

SHEPHERDSVILLE - With one game remaining in district play during the regular season, the play-off picture for November is starting to come into focus.

In fact, after the games next Friday, the play-off picture will pretty much be decided.

(All teams should have completed district games by next Friday, but because of the lost week in Jefferson County because of the wind storm, some district games might still need to be played.)

    Class 4-A

  • Bennett leads Cougars to big win...

HEBRON ESTATES - Down 10-0 at halftime, Bullitt Central veteran coach Dan Leasor was not discouraged.

He knew what his Cougar football team could do. In fact, as the clock ticked off in the second quarter, Leasor was overheard telling one of his players that if they were only down by 10, Bullitt Central was in great shape.

Whether Leasor is a prophet or whether he has a good read on his football team, Bullitt Central was indeed in good shape as the Cougars captured the Bullitt Cup after defeating North Bullitt 26-17.

  • Nelson end's North's...

BARDSTOWN -- For the third straight season, the soccer season for the North Bullitt Lady Eagles came to an end in the semi-finals of the Ninth District Tournament.

On Monday, it was a 3-0 setback to Nelson County that ended the season for the green and gold.

Unfortunately, since the three Bullitt County teams were shifted into the Ninth District six years ago, a local team has not reached the championship game.

  • BC seeks first district win

SHEPHERDSVILLE - After three straight ‘big’ games on the road, two of them victories, the Bullitt Central Cougars return home for the final time this season on Friday as they play host to district rival Southern.

For all the things the Cougars have attained the past two seasons under head coach Danny Leasor, this will the last opportunity for one goal - winning a district game. While the Cougars are 9-10 overall in Leasor’s second stint as the head coach, Bullitt Central is 0-5 against their district rivals.
