  • THE CURSE IS OVER: North pulls...

HEBRON ESTATES – How Sweet It Is!

Following 12 years of frustration that included 25 consecutive losses to their arch-rivals, the North Bullitt Lady Eagles got to savor an oh-so sweet victory on Monday, beating Bullitt East 59-46 in the opening round of the Girls’ Sixth Region Tournament.

This was the fifth time in the past season seasons that the two Bullitt County programs had met in the regional tournament with Bullitt East winning all of those meetings including last season’s semi-final round win.

  • Lady Eagles advance to face Doss...

HEBRON ESTATES – There was plenty of celebrating going on for the North Bullitt Lady Eagles on Monday after the team defeated Bullitt East 59-46 in the opening game of the Girls’ Sixth Region Tournament, but the team will need to quickly get back down to earth and back to work.

With the win, North Bullitt advances to the semi-finals for the Sixth Region Tournament for the third straight season. The Lady Eagles will take on the Doss Lady Dragons on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in a game at Valley High School.

  • Cougars advance, Eagles fall in...

OKOLONA -- One young coach left the Southern High School gym a happy man.

Another young coach was left wondering what might have been.

Jessie Curry’s Bullitt Central Cougars continued a very satisfying season with a 52-47 victory over the host Southern Trojans.

The victory sent Bullitt Central into the 23rd District championship game against the Moore Mustangs. Both teams would advance to the Sixth Region tournament this week.

  • North Bullitt takes care of...

OKOLONA -- It’s been a long season for the Bullitt Central Lady Cougars.

But is one that should pay dividends in a couple of years.

In the short term, North Bullitt ended the season for Bullitt Central by a score of 61-27 in the semifinals of the 23rd District tournament on Tuesday.

Pressing the young Cougars, North Bullitt jumped out to a 17-0 lead. By the time coach David Marion pulled off the full-court press, Bullitt Central was down 21-2 with 2:55 left in the first quarter.

  • OT again, but this time J-town...

FERN CREEK – For the second time in three weeks, Bullitt East and Jeffersontown needed extra time to decide the outcome on Wednesday in the semi-finals of the Boys’ 24th District Tournament at Fern Creek High School.

In the end, it was the Chargers dressed in maroon and gray that for the second straight season came up with the win, beating Bullitt East 66-63 this time.

The setback ended the season for Bullitt East with a 15-16 record.

  • Sixth Region hoops starting on...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – For the fifth time in the last seven seasons the Bullitt East Lady Chargers and the North Bullitt Lady Eagles will clash in the Sixth Region Tournament as the two local powers will meet on Monday in the opening round of the Sixth Region Tournament.

While Bullitt East has won the four previous meetings, two in the first round and twice in the semi-finals, this will be the first time that North Bullitt has had the Lady Chargers in the Eagles’ Nest.

  • Lady Chargers’ big surge comes...

FERN CREEK – A 16-2 run midway through the second half pulled the Bullitt East Lady Chargers within 64-62 early in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Chargers could not get over the hump against arch-rival Mercy in the championship game of the Girls’ 24th District Tournament on Thursday at Fern Creek High School.

This was the eighth consecutive 24th District final featuring Bullitt East and Mercy. The Lady Chargers had won the two previous years, but Mercy now has a 6-2 record in post-season play at the district level.

  • Lady Eagles need late rally to...

OKOLONA -- With a minute to go and North Bullitt climbing back to take a two-point lead, veteran coach David Marion and Emily Twyman were alone.

His message was simple, if you get the ball, go hit a layup.

On cue, senior Hailey Free got the ball and found Twyman open inside. The junior forward calmly put the ball in the basket.

Down nine to open the final frame, North Bullitt went on an 18-3 run to win its seventh straight District 23 title.

  • Cougars win first district title...

OKOLONA – A perfect week ended for the Bullitt Central Cougars on Friday with the program’s first district title since 2014 as the maroon and gray led from start to finish to beat Moore 58-45.

Coach Jessie Curry’s team came into the post-season seeded fourth in the five-team district and that meant an opening round game against Evangel. The Cougars passed that test with flying colors, winning 102-57.

  • East’s Mantell to play football...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – It is not too often that a football player has to return home from college for his signing ceremony, but that was the case recently for Bullitt East senior Daniel Mantell.

Or is it Lindsey Wilson freshman Daniel Mantell?

Mantell has already graduated from Bullitt East, a goal he accomplished in December. He then started classes at Lindsey Wilson for the spring semester.
