SHEPHERDSVILLE – I’ll be the first to admit that no Bullitt County football team has really jumped up and grabbed the imagination of their fan bases this fall.

SHEPHERDSVILLE – Once again this season The Pioneer News will run the results from the Greater Bullitt County Youth Football League in each Wednesday edition during the season.
The statistics used each week are provided to the newspaper by the league and the individual teams. Questions about yardage, scoring and tackles should be directed to the league and those teams.

SHEPHERDSVILLE – The high school football play-offs locally will have a somewhat different look starting on Friday as the three area teams will be competing with teams from far outside of the Jefferson County zip codes for the first time in a number of years.
Last year, no area team traveled any further from home than Fairdale and even in the second round North Bullitt only had to travel to Fern Creek.

LOUISVILLE – Competing against some of the best runners in the state, a total of four Bullitt County competitors earned spots on Saturday at the Class 3-A, Region 3 Cross-Country Championships this coming Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.
While none of the three boys’ and three girls’ squads advanced to Lexington, something the Bullitt Central Lady Cougars had done last year, it was still a strong showing. All four runners advanced as individuals and all four are underclassmen.

LEXINGTON – A large number of Bullitt County runners took part on Oct. 22 in the Elementary and Middle school State Cross-Country Championships which were held at Masterson Station Park near Lexington.
There were many runners from Mount Washington who during the season train together as part of the East Running Club. For this meet, they each represented their own schools, be it at the elementary or middle school level.

MOUNT WASHINGTON— They say that you always find your way back home.
For Mount Washington’s new community parks director Sheryl Paxton, that saying is couldn’t be truer.
Raised in Lexington, Paxton attended Asbury University with a Bachelor’s degree in exercise science and a minor in recreation. After graduation, she worked in retail for a couple years before going to Eastern Kentucky University for her master’s in physical education with an emphasis in sports administration.

  • NB second, BC third, East fourth...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – Now I know how people felt in the 1930s waiting for election results, sitting and waiting for the ticker-tape machine to slowly click off the results.
It was that way Friday night for me and North Bullitt and Bullitt Central football coaches as they sat and stared at their Iphones or Ipads waiting for the results from area football games to flash on the screen.

  • Football tie-breaker up in the...

SHEPHERDSVILLE -- After the final three Class 5-A, Region 3 games were played last Friday, the three Bullitt County teams were all tied at 3-2 for the second, third and fourth-place spots for the play-offs which start next Friday throughout Kentucky.

Unfortunately, the tie won’t be broken until late on Friday when results from other games across the state are tabulated.

The tie-breaking system takes the number of wins of teams that the squads involved in the tie have beaten during the season.

LOUISVILLE -- The Class 3-A, Region 3 Championship Cross-Country races will be held Saturday at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in eastern Jefferson County with all three Bullitt County programs taking part.
