Artifacts, history still sought for Bowman Valley

-A A +A

SHEPHERDSVILLE -- Work continues on restoring the Bowman Valley Schoolhouse.

The last African-American schoolhouse in the county was recently moved to its new home next to the Bullitt County Board of Education.

According to project volunteer Gwinn Hahn, several activities are currently underway.

With the assistance of students from Bellarmine University, an oral history is being collected from former students of the school.

Hahn said anyone with stories to tell or details to preserve about the school are welcome to share those thoughts.

Also, the group is working to collect artifacts from the school.

Old photos, books, furniture or anything that might have been preserved by the school is being sought.

She said donors would be credited on the display.

The goal is to have half the school an interactive area, with the other half being replicated to show the classroom of the past.

Fund-raising continues to raise money for the relocation and the renovation of the school house.

If you would like to contribute or if you have items for the schoolhouse, call Hahn at 836-8820.
