SHEPHERDSVILLE - Bullitt Central got last week started with back-to-back games in which they played pretty well both nights.

On Monday, the Cougars played at home against Oldham County in a make-up of a game from earlier in January that was lost due to some bad weather. The Cougars rallied from a halftime deficit to tie the game at 43-43 entering the fourth quarter but the Colonels pulled away for a 60-50 victory.

A night later, the maroon and gray were back at home and this time they had their highest offensive output of the season as they bombed Kentucky Country Day 83-56.

Those two games left Bullitt Central with a 11-7 record with three weeks remaining in the regular season.

Against Oldham County, the Cougars were down 32-24 at halftime before pulling even with a 19-11 advantage in the third quarter. That momentum could not be maintained as the Colonels, one of the top teams in the Eighth Region, pulled away for the win.

“We played a really good game,” Bullitt Central head coach Joe Pat Lee said later in the week. “We did a really nice job, we just didn’t shoot the ball well.”

Shooting the ball has been the Cougars’ Achilles heel all season. Against Oldham County the maroon and gray converted only 17 of 48 shots (35 percent) which included only a 25 percent mark from beyond the arc.

“We were only down 53-50 with 1:45 to go and we missed three open shots,” Lee lamented.

Ryan Schnellenberger paced the Cougars with 20 points which included five three-pointers while fellow junior Caleb Craddock finished with 15 points.

Just 24-hours later, Bullitt Central finally found the range as they bombed Kentucky Country Day. The maroon and gray converted 54 percent of their shots. That mark included a 12 of 22 performance from beyond the arc. Schnellenberger tied the school mark with seven three-pointers in the win as he collected 29 points.

Craddock also had a big nigh with 28 points.

“I am obviously proud of the way we shot the basketball, but our defense was extremely active tonight and we did a great job rebounding against a much taller team,” Lee said. “We were able to make a lot of shots because we passed the ball extremely well.”
