HEBRON ESTATES - Each year the North Bullitt High School Youth Services Center presents its “Day of Shattered Dreams” event to warn senior students about the dangers of impaired driving prior to their prom.

This year’s event theme was Eagles Soaring Purpose: Death Defying Decisions.

The event included a fatal wreck scene, with students and their family members portraying an accident caused by drunk driving.

Local emergency units assisted in the scene, including Bullitt County EMS, Hillview and Pioneer Village Police, Shepherdsville and Zoneton Fire, and Air Methods.

Schoppenhorst, Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home also assisted, hosting a mock funeral service with a coffin.

Students heard from Quentin Higgins, a survivor of the Carrolton Bus Crash, who displays a bus model as part of his presentation. Other presentations included Theresa Martinez, representing MADD, and Tara McGuire with Bluegrass Prevention Center.

A National Guard simulator, a sobriety test station, and a golf cart obstacle course (with vision-impairing goggles) were also part of the event.
