Healthy Hearts Wear Red for 10th year

 SHEPHERDSVILLE—The 10th annual Healthy Hearts Wear Red Luncheon showed just how far it has grown with another sold out event.

Mended Hearts Inc. National President Donnette Smith told the audience her own heart story and explained what Mended Hearts does throughout the world. Donations totaling $2,374.49 were collected at the end of the event for the local Mended Hearts Chapter 11.

Doctor Mark Slaughter also spoke to the group about advances in heart-related medical technology while Healthy Lifestyles Centers Dietitian Carrie Kirkland gave suggestions on healthy food alternatives and Aetna Prevention and Wellness Coordinator Rob Arnold led the group in easy exercises.

Dorie Shelburne, director of Operations for Ambulatory Care with KentuckyOne Health, and Vaughn Payne, the medical director at CareSource, opened the luncheon while Executive Director/President of Trees Louisville Cindi Sullivan, emceed the event.

Models included Thelma Martin, Rosalie Eichenberger, Linda Shepherd, Mildred and David Thompson, Joan Norman, Jeanine Hayes and Beth and Audrey Edds. All outfits for the event were provided by Goody’s Department Store in Shepherdsville.

Other sponsors for the event include Aetna Better Health of Kentucky, Bullitt County Extension Homemakers, Bullitt County Health Department, Bullitt County YMCA, CareSource, KentuckyOne Health, Mended Hearts Kentuckiana Chapter 11 and Paroquet Springs Conference Centre.
