SHEPHERDSVILLE - The Bullitt Central Lady Cougars snapped back from their first loss of the season on Friday to pick up another victory against a Sixth Region contender as they turned back Pleasure Ridge Park 70-50.

The Lady Panthers are coached by former Bernheim Middle School head coach and Bullitt Central assistant coach Buddy Fluhr. He his in his fifth season and has his best team yet at PRP. The Lady Panthers are 3-2 with the two losses coming to Bullitt East and now Bullitt Central.

PRP has more size this season, but the Lady Cougars countered that with more speed. Bullitt Central jumped on top 21-16 in the first quarter and then never looked back. The home team was up 42-28 at halftime and then put the game on ice with a 16-8 surge in the third quarter.

Bullitt Central outscored PRP 30-6 from three-point range. Coach Bryan Bates’ team got a trio of three-pointers off the bench from sophomore Selena Yunt and the two tallest Lady Cougar starters, Seaera Minyard and Kaitlyn McKnight each had a pair of three-pointers.

Minyard led all scorers in the game with 18 points McKnight and Yunt each had 17 points. Ashleigh Pollard also had a pair of three-pointers and finished with eight points.

All of those players benefited from the passing of senior point guard Keoka Hilliard. Already the program’s all-timer lead in assists, Hilliard dished out ten assists in this win.

Freshman Paige Murphy paced PRP with 13 points.

The win moved Bullitt Central to 3-1 overall.

Big Problems for BC

In the boys’ game on Friday, Bullitt Central ran into too much size and speed as the Cougars suffered a 94-55 setback to Pleasure Ridge Park.

The two teams did not play last season, but the contract was renewed this season. The Panthers were ranked 11th in the state in the pre-season coaches’ pool and are the top-ranked team in the highly competitive Sixth Region.

Bullitt Central (2-3) managed to stay close early in the game, trailing only 20-15 after one quarter. That all changed in the second frame as the Panthers went on a 34-10 surge that broke the game open.

The Cougars did get 14 points from junior Ryan Schnellenberger as well as nine points from Caleb Craddock and eight from Miciah Ocasio.

Chad McDowell and Jake Simpson each had 15 points for the Panthers.

Bullitt Central played at Southern on Tuesday of this week but the team will not play over the upcoming weekend as they prepare to start play in the Sarah Major Barger Tournament at North Bullitt which starts next Monday.
