23rd District Tournaments at North Bullitt

By Thomas Barr

HEBRON ESTATES — On a cloudy, windy afternoon, the North Bullitt  Lady Eagles were not going to let anyone rain on their parade.

In the first game of the District 23 softball tourney, North Bullitt was in total domination in a 22-1 victory over the Moore Mustangs.

The visitors broke on top in the first inning when Angela Lopez Cruz lined a triple down the  right-field line. She scored on an infield hit by Tori Booker. After a single by Shyann Judd, Sabrina  Sizemore  closed the door and did not allow another hit in the three-inning contest.

Coach Chad Laswell’s team came back to score 10 runs in the first inning.

Katie Knight walked and Sizemore, Madison Haley and Savannah Mills each reached on errors.

Lila Dangerfield  had an RBI single and Ashyton Brown followed with another RBI single.

McKenna Oakley had an infield hit and Knight walked. Sizemore’s single brought home two more runs. Haley reached on an error and Mills hit into a fielder’s choice for the final RBI.

The Lady Eagles would put 12 more runs on the board in the bottom of the second.

Against a shifted infield, Brown placed a ball over third base that resulted in a double. She would steal second and go to third. She would be awarded home when the throw went into the dugout.

Cierra Williams  singled and Oakley followed with a single. Knight walked.

Sizemore plated two more runs on a single. Haley would reach on an error and Mills’ fielder’s choice plated the final runner.

Under the run rule, Moore could not score and the game ended in the third inning — just before the rain began  to fall.

North Bullitt had 13 hits on 17 earned runs. Sizemore struck out five in three innings of work.

The top-seeded Lady Eagles would face either Bullitt Central or Southern in the final on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. The Bullitt Central-Southern game just got started before the rains cancelled play until Monday.
