Opening day festivities kick off the 112th Kentucky State Fair

 LOUISVILLE – Celebrate the history, heritage and culture of the Bluegrass State on Thursday, Aug. 18, at the Kentucky State Fair kick-off. The 11-day celebration features hundreds of exhibits, livestock, food, rides and concerts, along with the World’s Championship Horse Show in Freedom Hall.

“The Bevin Family invites all Kentuckians to join us this year at the Kentucky State Fair,” said Gov. Matt Bevin. “Load up your vehicles and bring your own family and friends to the fairgrounds in Louisville. There will be lots of activities, concerts and food for everyone to enjoy. We look forward to seeing you there.”

The celebration begins with the Kentucky Commodity Group Appreciation Breakfast, hosted by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture. The breakfast features Kentucky’s best homegrown food producers from Kentucky Sheep and Wool Producers, Kentucky Aquaculture Association, Kentucky Country Ham Producers Association, Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association, American Dairy Association of Kentucky, Kentucky Goat Producers, Kentucky Pork Producers Association and Kentucky Corn Growers Association. 

The public is invited to the official ribbon cutting on the Family Stage in South Wing C Lobby at 5:30 p.m. Gov. Matt Bevin, Mayor Greg Fischer and other dignitaries will participate in the brief ceremony, emceed by long-time news anchor Joe Arnold. Opening Day is sponsored by Woodford County/Woodford Reserve.

The Main Stage Concert Series opens with top female artist, Reba McEntire and special guest Parmalee. The 7:30 p.m. concert is in Freedom Hall. Available tickets are $46 and $50.

ABBA the Concert, with special guest Kazual, kicks off the free Turf Concert Series at 8 p.m. in Cardinal Stadium. The Kentucky Lottery Corporation is the official sponsor.

County Fairs Day, sponsored by Kentucky Association of Fairs and Horse Shows, is on Thursday, Aug. 18.
