  • Smoking ban needed

     Kentucky’s 2013 legislative session ended on Tuesday, March 26, and Frankfort was unsuccessful in passing legislation to make public places in Kentucky smoke free. In a state that leads the nation in lung cancer deaths and smoking rates, it is tragic that the General Assembly lacks the political will to protect its citizens from toxic second-hand smoke. All Kentuckians will pay the price for this missed opportunity to reduce smoking’s tremendous health and economic burden on the state.

  • BBB Warns: Don’t Fall for “499 Scam”

      BBB is warning consumers to beware of the “499” Scam! Local banks are being inundated with calls from concerned consumers.

    The call appears to come from “499” on your cell phone. The automated message says the person is with the security department of a well-known bank and your card has been deactivated for transactions due to suspicious activity.

    1. OverstockCloseoutSales.com of Leitchfield, KY has an “F” rating with the BBB. Consumers say the website, which is now shut down, was using the BBB logo. Complainants, who found the company advertised on their local Craigslist, say they ordered and paid for items they never received. They paid for the items through Green Dot MoneyPak.
