  • North Bullitt seeks regional triple play

HEBRON ESTATES -- If winning consecutive Sixth Region titles and winning games in the state championship tournament means that you have a target on your back, North Bullitt head coach Brian Wise is ready to take on that burden.

After winning regional titles the past two years and making a deep run in the state tournament, it is just another baseball season for the Eagles.

  • Napier follows family tree to Campbellsville

MOUNT WASHINGTON – Campbellsville track and cross-country coach Hilary Lakes will be the first to admit that getting the signature of Bullitt East senior Olivia Napier on an NAIA Letter of Intent was not a particularly difficult task in the normally tough world of recruiting.

It was just two years ago that Zach Napier signed with Lakes and the Tigers. When it came to younger sister Olivia, she knew exactly what the school had to offer and how it would work for her.

“He loves it down there,” she said of her brother.

  • Loss ends an era for BE hoops

SHEPHERDSVILLE – If there is one constant in high school sports, it is graduation.

Because of that, coaches, fans and parents tend to break things down into eras, based on the top players of that time.

  • Dragons breathe fire on East’s dreams

VALLEY STATION – A poor start to the third quarter put the Bullitt East Chargers in a deep hole on Monday in the championship game of the Class Act Boys’ Sixth Region Championship game against defending champion Doss.

From a 26-26 halftime tie, the Chargers found themselves down 39-27 five minutes into the period and it was an uphill struggle from there. The red and gold made a furious rally, pulling within 47-45 with 3:12 to play before Doss scored seven straight points to put the game out of reach en route to winning 58-54.

  • BE vs. Doss in Monday’s final

VALLEY STATION – After pulling out an overtime victory on Thursday in the first semi-final of the Sixth Region Tournament at Valley High School, Bullitt East players said they didn’t really care which team – Doss or Fern Creek – that they would face in Monday’s championship game.

As it turned out, the Chargers will take on Doss after the Dragons beat the Tigers 57-44.

  • East just Sharpe enough to beat DeSales

VALLEY STATION – Down by seven points with less than two minutes to play in Thursday’s Sixth Region semi-final against DeSales, the Bullitt East Chargers rallied to force overtime and then held the Colts scoreless in the extra period to pull out a 57-51 victory.

  • Lady Chargers’ rally starts too late against Butler

VALLEY STATION – In a game in which defense was Queen, the Bullitt East Lady Chargers scored just 20 points through three quarters, trailing the state’s second-ranked team, Butler, by 14 points heading into the final eight minutes.

  • Chargers just too hot for North in first-round

HEBRON ESTATES – It’s always tough to play Bullitt East, but it is especially tough when the Chargers are mad.

  • Second-ranked Butler next for BE

MOUNT WASHINGTON – It will be a Clash of the Titans on Wednesday as Butler and Bullitt East collide in the semi-finals of the Girls’ Sixth Region Tournament.

The showdown will take place at 8:15 p.m. at Valley High School.

Butler, the state’s second-ranked team, advanced to the meeting with a 77-28 win over Bullitt Central on Monday while Bullitt East was defeating Fairdale 83-58. The Lady Chargers are ranked 16th in the state.

  • Hoops Hysteria

There’s nothing better than basketball action when it reaches the post-season.

In the District 23 final, the North Bullitt Eagles went to Moore on its home court and came out with the victory.

It was the first district championship since 2006.

From the fans to the band to the cheerleaders, it is always an energized game in the post-season.
