  • Rolling Hills’ Merrick signs...

HEBRON ESTATES – For the second year in a row, Campbellsville University reached out to Rolling Hills Christian to sign a player for its NAIA Volleyball program.

This spring, it was Paige Merrick who got the call and she quickly accepted the offer from head coach Amy Zink. A year ago it was Baylee Jensen who Zink plucked from Rolling Hills.

  • North grad Wyatt named All-ACC...

LOUISVILLE – To say that former North Bullitt standout Logan Wyatt had a banner season for the University of Louisville baseball team would be an understatement.

After limited playing time as a freshman two seasons ago, playing first base behind national Player of the Year Brandon McKay, Wyatt had a breakout season this spring. He was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week back early in the season and then he capped that off two weeks ago by being named the All-ACC First Baseman for 2018.

  • BC’s Gossett, BE’s Armstrong...

SHEPHERDSVILLE -- Two local tennis coaches have been recognized by their peers.

The members of the Kentucky High School Tennis Coaches Association selected Bullitt Central’s Tiffany Gossett and Bullitt East’s Dustin Armstrong as the Sixth Region Coaches of the Year.

“I was very surprised and thankful to receive such an honor from my peers,” said Gossett, who coaches both the boys’ and girls’ teams at Bullitt Central.

LOUISVILLE – One of the strongest contingents in several years turned in a banner day on May 26 at the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Middle School State Championships at the University of Louisville.

  • East’s Higdon signs for hoops...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – The pipeline between Bullitt County and the Spalding University women’s basketball program worked again this spring when Bullitt East senior Amber Higdon signed to play with the Lady Eagles and head coach Charlie Just.

Higdon will be rejoining with former teammate Alyssa Peak who will be a sophomore with Spalding in the upcoming season. Former North Bullitt player Megan Goeing plays with the Lady Eagles and they will all be joined by North Bullitt twins Caroline and Sarah Janes next season.

  • Eastside sweeps middle school...

MOUNT WASHINGTON -- The All-Bullitt County Middle School Track and Field Championships awarded team points to the top six finishers in each individual event on a 10-8-6-4-2-1 basis and to the top five teams in each relay on a 10-8-6-4-2 count. No school could have more than three athletes scoring team points. Only those athletes scoring team points are listed below.

(Please note that several relay teams listed more than four runners with alternates. All runners on the score sheet are listed for that team.)

  • KHSAA is combining region cheer...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – It is just six weeks until the start of football, volleyball, soccer, golf and cross-country practices on July 15 for area high school programs.

Where did the summer go? LOL.

Before we get into full summer mode here, a handful of things happened during the spring that just sort of got moved to a back burner because of space and time constraints.

  • Final -- Defense falters as...

LOUISVILLE – High school sports can teach a lot of lessons for life.

For the Bullitt East Chargers, the lessons learned from Thursday’s Sixth Region Baseball Championship Game was that sometimes the other team is just a better squad. That was obvious for this season after Pleasure Ridge Park took the best the Chargers had to offer and rolled to a 9-0 victory at the University of Louisville’s Jim Patterson Stadium.

  • SEMIS -- East rallies past North...

LOUISVILLE – In a contest that will go down in local baseball lore as perhaps the best ever, the Bullitt East Chargers scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning and beat North Bullitt 3-2 on the biggest stage in which the two arch-rivals have ever met.

  • BASEBALL - East wins and...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – There are no style points in baseball.

In addition, in the post-season, nobody asks if the game was beautiful, only did you win or lose.

While it wasn’t always a thing of beauty, the Bullitt East Chargers won and advanced on Monday, beating former district rival Fairdale 8-2 in an opening round game of the Sixth Region Tournament.
