  • MW U-10 All-Stars finish as...

    MOUNT WASHINGTON -- Playing at home, the Mount Washington Under-10 All-Stars finished second in the District 10 and 11 Tournament and then advanced to the Cal Ripken Metro West Kentucky State Tournament last weekend.

    First, in district play, the U-10 All-Stars finished ‘pool’ play as the number two seed for the five-team bracket play and then defeated Spencer County 12-8 in the second semi-final. That led into the championship game against Jeffersontwon, but on a hot day, the team came up short by a 10-0 score.

  • MW U-12 All-Stars advance out of...

     MOUNT WASHINGTON -- It was a learning summer for the Mount Washington Under-12 All-Star team under head coach Jason Thiel.

    After some warm-up events, the squad started Cal Ripkin tournament action in the combined District 10 and 11 event at Jeffersontown’s Skyview Park.

    This was a five-team, modified ‘pool’ play event with a single-elimination bracket. Mt. Washington had a tougher opener and dropped a decision to Jeffersontown, the eventual champions. The team then came back and picked up a victory over Hikes Point.

  • MW U-9 Stars shine at home, then...

     MOUNT WASHINGTON -- The Mount Washington U-9 All-Stars had a strong summer, but kept running into the East Louisville team.

    First, playing at home in the District 10 and 11 event, Mount Washington reached a semi-final where they had to face East Louisville. Mount Washington had the lead most of the game before East Louisville scored in the bottom of the sixth to win 9-8.

    That third place finish advanced the team to the eight-team Metro Western Kentucky State Tournament at Highview Park.

     MOUNT WASHINGTON -- The Mount Washington U-11 All-Stars reached the Cal Ripken West Kentucky State Tournament after finishing amongst the top four teams in district play, but the summer ended with an offensive draught.

  • MW U-8 softball All-Stars win...

    GLASGOW – Roaring out of the loser’s bracket to win five straight games, four in one day, the Mount Washington Under-8 All-Stars won the Babe Ruth Ohio Valley Regional Tournament title last weekend in Barren County.

    The team capped off the big weekend by defeating rival Germantown in two straight games. First, Mount Washington won the first of the two championship games by a 9-6 score and then came back after a 30-minute break to win the final championship game 6-3.

  • Blue Lick U-8 All-Stars

     LOUISVILLE — If was a tough opening game for the Blue Lick 8 All-Stars.

    Facing a Prairie Village team with some very big players, Blue Lick fell 13-2 in a second-round battle.

    After a rough first two innings, where Prairie Village scored eight of its runs, Blue Lick settled down.

    Held to a single hit in the machine-pitch tourney, Blue Lick scored its two runs in the fourth inning.

    With one out, Brayden Puckett reached on a single and Allan Getzin followed with a double. Jayden Seay and Evan Heath each followed with RBI singles.

  • Blue Lick U-10 All-Star squad

     LOUISVILLE -- It was a tough start to the All-Star season for the 10-year-old team from Blue Lick.

    Facing Germantown on Thursday evening, Blue Lick failed to collect a hit in a 14-0 loss in four innings.

    Bryan Boulden threw the first three innings of no-hit ball.

    The visitors jumped on top 4-0 in the first inning. Germantown followed that with another eight runs in the second.

    Played at Prairie Village in Louisville, Blue Lick went into the loser’s bracket on Friday and lost against Okolona.

  • Alex Young named new Eagle hoops...

     HEBRON ESTATES – After two months without a head coach, North Bullitt last Monday removed the ‘interim’ tag from Alex Young and promoted the top assistant the last several years under Korey Craddock to the top job in the boys’ basketball program.

    At one point in June, the school did not have a principal, athletic director or boys’ basketball coach. Once those dominos started falling, Young stood out amongst a strong group of candidates.

  • BC’s Tanner Schmidt signs to...

     SHEPHERDSVILLE – A fourth place finish at the UCA National Championships in February was frustrating for Bullitt Central cheerleader Tanner Schmidt and his teammates, but it ended up having a silver-lining for the senior.

    After the team returned home, Schmidt was contacted by the cheerleading coaching staff at Western Kentucky University. The interest quickly became mutual and Schmidt made several trips to Bowling Green to participate in clinics.

     SHEPHERDSVILLE – The summer baseball All-Star season is in full swing now with teams from both the Mount Washington Youth Baseball and Softball League as well as the Blue Lick Optimist League all in action this month.
