  • Mount Washington names park...

MOUNT WASHINGTON—A Mount Washington spot has a new name honoring a local student’s statewide achievement.

The Lindsey Duvall Park, previously known as the Mount Washington City Park, is located at 100 Newman Way behind Mount Washington Elementary.

Though it was meant to be a surprise unveiling during an opening day celebration (which was postponed due to bad weather), Parks Director Sheryl Paxton said word spread too quickly after the wind blew the cover off to keep it a secret.

  • BE softball wins key district...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – The wins haven’t been as frequent as coach Ricky Hoffman would like or that the program has been used too, but the Bullitt East Lady Charger softball team did win a game last week that they had to have if they hope to advance out of district play and compete in the Sixth Region Tournament for a ninth consecutive season.

  • North Bullitt hits a late mid-...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – After beating Bullitt Central on Monday for the team’s 11th win in the last 12 games, North Bullitt softball coach Chad Laswell said that his team would face some challenges later in the week.

That turned out to be an honest assessment as the Lady Eagles recent winning ways came to an end as the team dropped three consecutive contests.

  • North has two boats in KHSAA...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – A pair of boats from North Bullitt will compete on Friday and Saturday in the KHSAA State Bass Fishing Championship on Kentucky Lake.

Eighty boats will be part of the competition that will start at 7 a.m. (central) on Friday with the boats returning to the docks on a staggered schedule starting at 3 p.m. On Saturday, the anglers will follow the same schedule.

  • NB wraps up top seed with win...

HEBRON ESTATES -- Alec Lush has worked around a little back stiffness this season.

He’s watched as some of the younger arms took to the mound.

But, in a game that meant the number one district seeding, Lush showed head coach Brian Wise exactly want he has wanted to see.

“Alec made the statement: It’s still my team,” said Wise.

  • East has a solid week ‘on the...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – The Bullitt East Chargers went on the road three times last week and each time returned home with a victory.

Unfortunately, the red and gold lost the only game at home during the week, falling to Oldham County 7-0 on Thursday.

“We were just bad on Thursday,” veteran Bullitt East head coach Jeff Bowles said over the weekend.

  • Tennis’ final week brings fair...

SHEPHERDSVILLE  — Boys and girls will be heading into Jefferson County this week as Sixth Region tournament action begins.

Since the draw was not until Sunday night, no pairings are available.

Savannah Kruse should have a high seed in her bid to return to the state tournament in Frankfort. Shanna Blocker of North Bullitt could also have an opportunity for a seed in singles play.

On the boys side, it is unlikely any of the local participants will have a seed.

  • It will be a busy final week for...

MOUNT WASHINGTON -- The track season for all three area programs will end with a flurry this week with a pair of big meets.

First, on Monday, the All-Bullitt County Track Championships will be held at Bullitt East High School.

This event will be part of a full evening of track and field events at Bullitt East as Charger head coach Lenny Raley will be running both the Bullitt County Middle School and the High School championship meets on the same day.

The two events will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Bullitt East.

  • NB’s Moody at state

LEXINGTON – Outside of the competitors from Bullitt Central, North Bullitt freshman Josh Moody also qualified and competed in the KHSAA Kentucky State Archery Championships.

Taking part in his first KHSAA state championships, Moody finished with a 285 total from his 30 shots. The freshman had 17 ‘10s’ on his scorecard.

That 285 total placed Moody 67th overall out of 273 competitors. Among freshman, he had the 12th best score.
