  • Eagles advance with 12-2 win

OKOLONA — It was almost the perfect scenario for Brian Wise.

While the start was a little slower than he would have wanted in a district tournament game, Wise couldn’t complain with the end result.

That was a 12-2 win for the North Bullitt Eagles over the Moore Mustangs in the semifinals of the 23rd District tournament on Monday at Southern High School.

The victory advanced the Eagles to the Sixth Region tournament, which begins on Monday.

  • BC vs. Southern put on hold

OKOLONA — Bullitt Central was three outs away from winning its first district baseball game since 2013.

However, leading 3-1 in the top of the seventh inning, Bullitt Central would have to return on Tuesday at 5 p.m. to see if it would advance to the championship game of the 23rd District.

Bullitt Central was batting in the top of the seventh when lightning was seen in the skies. After a delay, it was decided to return on Tuesday.

Southern would have its at-bats in the bottom of the seventh inning.

  • Chargers have no trouble winning...

FERN CREEK – To the surprise of no one, the Bullitt East Chargers had no trouble on Monday against Whitefield Academy in the opening game of the 24th District Baseball Tournament at Fern Creek High School.

Bullitt East scored eight runs in the first inning and added seven more in the second before head coach Jeff Bowles pulled most of his regulars in a 17-0 victory. The Chargers had beaten the Wildcats 11-0 back on April 19 in one of just nine games Whitefield played during the regular season.

  • Post-season diamond play starts...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – Get in. Get out. Get finished.

That seems to be the philosophy of area athletic directors as this week’s post-season play for area teams in baseball and softball will be about as compact as possible.

In the 23rd District, with play at Southern High School, the only facility in the district with lights, the decision was made to do everything in two days in both sports. The semi-finals in each sport will be played on Monday with the championship games played at the same time on Tuesday.

  • North softball fashions 3-1 week

HEBRON ESTATES -- Heading into the final week of the regular season, the North Bullitt softball team claimed wins in three of four contests.

The week started with a 15-0 victory over Bardstown at home in a game that was stopped after just three innings.

Madison Ludwig pitched the first two innings for the win before Elizabeth Hines pitched the last inning. Each pitcher gave up one hit.

At the plate, North Bullitt had just eight hits, but walked nine times and Bardstown made two errors.

  • Lady Chargers win two straight

MOUNT WASHINGTON -- For the first time this spring the Bullitt East softball team won back-to-back games last week as they moved to 7-14 entering the final week of the regular season.

The week didn’t start on such a high note as the red and gold dropped a 10-0 decision on the road at Central Hardin.

The Lady Chargers had just two hits and three base runners.

  • BE gets key hits to win typical...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – On a good day, veteran manager Jeff Bowles is pretty quiet down in the third-base coaching box.

If quiet, that means his Bullitt East Charger batters are taking care of business.

If not, then Bowles will be flashing a lot of signs for bunts and hit and runs.

On Saturday, all the season records were thrown out the window as Bullitt East hosted North Bullitt in its annual meeting.

Getting a couple of breaks and then coming up with the big hit, came away with a 4-1 victory.

  • Charger baseball has perfect week

MOUNT WASHINGTON -- Including a win over North Bullitt on Saturday (see story above), the Bullitt East Chargers won all five games they played last week, using five different pitchers to start games.

The red and gold picked up an impressive win on Monday as they defeated Central Hardin, a top-15 team in the state, by a 4-2 margin.

The Chargers trailed 2-1 before scoring a run in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the sixth to get the win.

  • BE softball wins key district...

MOUNT WASHINGTON – The wins haven’t been as frequent as coach Ricky Hoffman would like or that the program has been used too, but the Bullitt East Lady Charger softball team did win a game last week that they had to have if they hope to advance out of district play and compete in the Sixth Region Tournament for a ninth consecutive season.

  • North Bullitt hits a late mid-...

SHEPHERDSVILLE – After beating Bullitt Central on Monday for the team’s 11th win in the last 12 games, North Bullitt softball coach Chad Laswell said that his team would face some challenges later in the week.

That turned out to be an honest assessment as the Lady Eagles recent winning ways came to an end as the team dropped three consecutive contests.
