  • Football-Baseball mix well at BE

MOUNT WASHINGTON - It has been a wonderful book-end athletic season at Bullitt East.

In the fall, the football team bounced back from a 1-3 start to reach the Class 4-A State Championship game. It was a little bit of a surprise and then others were more surprised when the Chargers gave Bell County all they could handle in the final game before falling 15-13 on the final play of the game.

MOUNT WASHINGTON - When it came down to a final decision on a college, Bullitt East senior Michael Bozarth decided to follow the family bloodline and attend Centre College.

In the fall, Bozarth will join his older brother, James, on the Colonels football team. The two will both play on the defensive side of the ball.

“It was the right spot for me,” Michael said after finishing up with the final paperwork to send back to the school. “It’s a great education and they had a good financial package. It just feels right.”

SHEPHERDSVILLE -- Bullitt County had a multiple state champion for the first time in over 20 years.

Add to the that the fact that Bullitt County had its first-ever one-two finish in the same event.

Yes, the 2009 Kentucky State Track and Field Championships was a good weekend for the most part. Both of the Bullitt East track teams scored team points as did the North Bullitt girls.

  • Three local teams score state...

LOUISVILLE - Bullitt East sprint standout Bobby Harrison stood on the infield grass at the University of Louisville track on Friday night with three medals hanging around his neck.

For most athletes in Kentucky, it would have been an electric moment. For Harrison it was really the end of a frustrating day that saw him come up short of some of his goals, namely a state championship in either the 100- or 200-meter dashes or the 4 X 100-meter relay.

Instead, the senior finished fifth in the 200, and sixth in the 100 while the relay team was fourth.

  • 2009 Regional Track and Field...

LOUISVILLE - Bullitt East junior Jackie Stevens was such a big favorite to bring home two titles from Friday’s Kentucky State Track and Field Championships that it put added pressure on her to live up to the high expectations.

Just put it down as mission accomplished.

Stevens won both the girls’ Class AA discus and the shot put at the University of Louisville, giving Bullitt East its first state track titles since 1988. The junior had top three finishes in both events last season.

  • First inning uprising sends East...

LEXINGTON - Everybody thinks it and dreams it, but nobody expects it to come true.

But the dreams did become true for the Bullitt East Chargers in the first round of the Forcht Bank/Kentucky State Baseball Tournament on Thursday when the red and gold sent 14 batters to the plate and scored ten runs in the first inning. It was smooth sailing from that point as Bullitt East beat South Laurel 16-5, advancing to Friday’s semi-finals against Owensboro.
