    SHEPHERDSVILLE - After a warm-up week, the great Bullitt County tradition of summer Babe Ruth All-Star baseball and softball will move into overdrive. Starting on Wednesday with baseball action for the Bullitt County and Mount Washington teams and on Thursday for softball teams, there will be games all over Jefferson County along with a handful in Mount Washington.

    While basketball camps seem to dominate the landscape at this time of year, it was baseball that got top billing last week at the Bullitt East Baseball Camp which was run under the direction of Charger head coach Jeff Bowles.This was the first year for the event, but it drew almost 100 players to the morning and afternoon sessions.The three-day camp was conducted at the Mount Washington Youth Baseball and Softball facility at Mount Washington Elementary School.

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - With the 'dead period' set to end on Wednesday of this week, the actual start of the 2008-09 high school athletic season is upon us.Later this week, teams will be allowed back in the weight room before the official start of conditioning next Tuesday, July 15. Teams are not allowed to go in full pads or with full contact until Friday, Aug. 1.There really isn't a major change in the high school football schedule this year, but just the way the dates fall, it seems like everything is getting off to a later start.

    The annual Danny Linde Middle School Basketball Camp drew a large number of boys for the four-day event. There was wall-to-wall basketball with an emphasis on full -court games.One break was taken early in the week when former University of Kentucky player Scott Padgett showed up to speak to the campers.Padgett played nine years in the NBA. He played his high school basketball in Louisville at St. Xavier.After speaking, Padgett took time to sign some autographs.
