Sunrise services in MW

Mount Washington United Methodist Church will conduct Easter Sunday sunrise services at 7 a.m. on March 31.

The service will be held at the Mount Washington Cemetery. Everyone is invited to attend.

Holy Week services

Shepherdsville Christian Church will once again host the Shepherdsville Community Holy Week Worship services and fellowship lunches.

They will be held from March 25-29 from Noon until 1 p.m. each day.

Worship will be daily at Noon in the sanctuary, with a free fellowship meal in the fellowship hall to follow the service.

The Hillview Community Yard Sale will be held on April 4-7.

The workshop will include essential gardening techniques, soil preparation, plant care, nutritional benefits of growing your own food and how it contributes to a healthier diet and lifestyle.

The city of Hillview will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 16.

The egg hunt for community children will begin at 1 p.m. at the government center.

Prior to the memorial service, there will be a special discussion on the resurrection.

Scholarship from Master Gardeners

The Bullitt County Master Gardeners Association will present the David Lee Puckett Memorial Scholarship.

This is a $2,000 scholarship to those majoring in horticulture, agriculture, plant pathology, landscape design,botany, forestry, entomology, environmental concerns,urban planning,land management, agronomy, soil science or allied subjects preferred but not required.

Style Show Luncheon March 23

The Bullitt County Woman’s Club will sponsor the Irene Carroll Scholarship Style Show Luncheon on Saturday, March 23.

The annual event will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Paroquet Springs Conference Centre.

Clothing will be provided by Bullitt County stores — Country Vogue, Small Town Mama and Grace on Main.

There will be three scholarships of $3,000 awarded, one from each high school.

There will also be a silent auction and a trip to South Carolina to help raise funds for the scholarships.

MW Historical Society to meet

The Mount Washington Historical Society will hold its regular meeting on March 5 at the Mount Washington branch library.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.

Attendees are asked to bring a historical photo or object related to Mount Washington history, along with a short interpretation of the item to share during the Crossroads Roadshow segment of the meeting.

Fish Fry season to resume

A variety of organizations will be hosting fish fry events during the Lenten season.

THE MOUNT WASHINGTON LIONS CLUB will host Friday fish fries from Feb. 16 through March 29. The frying starts at 4 p.m. and items normally run out by 6:30 p.m.

There are other items, such as pork chop sandwiches, brats and kids’ meals on the menu.

The Lions Club is located next to the MW Firehouse at 810 N. Bardstown Road.

THE ST. BENEDICT FISH FRY will be held each Friday from Feb. 16-March 22 from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.

THE CITY OF HILLVIEW OPERATION SANTA fish fries will be held again every Friday during Lent at the government center.

American Legion hosts dinners

The American Legion 157 Auxiliary will host a series of dinners during the month.

This 3 hour training will certify you or update your certification to apply pesticides on your own property or farm. You MUST call Bullitt County Cooperative Extension to register for this training ahead of time at 502-543-2257.

Another Class will be held April 10 at 9AM-12PM.

A certified private pesticide applicator can use Restricted Use pesticides to produce any agricultural commodity on property owned or rented by him (her) or an employer, or to the lands of a farmer-neighbor, if the application is made without compensation other than trading of personal services between producers of agricultural commodities. Certified private applicators also may train workers to satisfy Worker Protection Standards.

Private applicator certification is valid for 3 years and expires on December 31 of the final year. Applicators must go through the county training program to keep their certification in effect.

Cruzin’ for Cancer car shows

The summer of car shows to raise money for cancer research is approaching.

The annual Cruzin’ for Cancer will be held on June 1, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Hillview Recreation Center on Prairie Drive. There will be food, music, raffles and a show for cars, motorcycles and trucks.

On April 13, May 11, July 13, Aug. 10 and Sept. 14, there will be monthly car shows at the Hillview Police Department from 10-3 p.m. Entry is $20.

Overdale Global reopens food pantry

The Overdale Global Methodist Church has reopened reopen its food pantry.

The church is not part of a large pantry but wants to do its part to serve the community.

God has blessed us and He has told us to “feed His sheep.”

There will be non-perishable food, such as canned vegetables and fruit, canned meat, boxed pasta, paper products and much more.

The church is located at 515 Overdale Drive next to the elementary school in Hillview.

The pantry will be open the third Tuesday of each month from 1-3 p.m.

Soil Conservation scholarships

Bullitt County High School Seniors graduating in 2024 are eligible to apply for a $2000 scholarship to use for their continuing education.

Four scholarships will be awarded by the Bullitt County Soil Conservation District.

Midnight bingo at Legion Post

However, there will be no fish fry on Feb. 9. Instead, the fish fry will be held every Friday during Lent, starting on Feb. 16.

Fish will start frying at 4 p.m. and goes until everything is sold, which is normally 5:30-6 p.m.
