SHEPHERDSVILLE – It’s Game Over for a distribution facility that opened just six years ago.
Employees of GameStop on Conestoga Parkway have been notified that the distribution facility in Shepherdsville would be closed by the end of June.
In a required notification under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, the company said that it would close within 14 days before or after June 30.
A request for additional information to the company’s Gravevine, Texas, headquarters has received no response.
Located along Interstate 65, the company notified workers recently that the facility would close with terminations starting in March. The company listed 236 employees at the local operation.
It was in 2016 that the company opened the Shepherdsville location, which had over 630,000 square foot of space available.
The investment at the time was announced at $23 million.
When the Shepherdsville facility opened, GameStop closed its warehouse in Commerce Crossings, just north of Hillview along the Gene Snyder Freeway, and relocated workers to Bullitt County.
The company has several retail outlets in Jefferson County.
Following the January meeting of the Bullitt County Economic Development Authority, director Bob Fouts said he was confident the facility would be able to find another tenant.
