SHEPHERDSVILLE – Would it be scary to know that your every move could be tracked by a software company?
Would you feel any better if that information could lead to more retail shopping and entertainment opportunities in your community?
During the April meeting of the Bullitt County Economic Development Authority, director Bob Fouts threw out a possibility of acquiring shopping habits for those who visit.
Board member Mark Stout said that for years there had been desires to know numbers when commercial establishments were looking at whether it would be feasible to locate in the county.
With the numbers, likely supplied by cell phone activities, Stout said it might be easier to bring in businesses.
Fouts said the software would cost around $31,000. He added that he could set up a demonstration for the board members to see what the software could provide.
In other business:
*Fouts said that inquiries from prospective businesses had slowed in the past month. He said that was a trend for many areas.
One international company looking at facilities being constructed in Lebanon Junction have put plans on hold due to the decision to not build the second battery operation near Elizabethtown.
On the other hand, Fouts said there had been four projects looking at property in Bullitt County that were not associated with manufacturing or distribution.
He said “entertainment” would be the best category to call the inquiries, which were looking in a range from 5 to 1,000.
County Judge/Executive Jerry Summers said that an interchange near the battery plant in Elizabethtown would still be built but that the hiring for the factory had slowed.
*With the designation of Bullitt County as an enhanced area by the state film commission, Fouts said the local area might see more activity. The state’s incentive program has led to many film projects over the past few years.
