SHEPHERDSVILLE – With few options, graduation dates have been set for the three high schools.
The Bullitt County Public School Board unanimously approved the recommendations by superintendent Dr. Jesse Bacon.
The recommendations came after each of the high schools hosted a parent forum.
The barrier to the traditional graduation ceremonies in Broadbent Arena came when the city of Louisville won the right to host the PGA tournament.
While the tournament will be held miles away, the Kentucky Expo Center will be used for spectator parking. While Broadbent Arena would be empty on May 18, the parking lot would not be available.
Bacon said that the district reached out to all available venues, including Knights Hall on the Bellarmine University campus, the Kentucky International Convention Center and the YUM Center.
That left openings at Broadbent for the following Tuesday and Wednesday; however, without a school graduating during the day, that was not an option for all three schools.
At the three parent forums, it was unanimous that no one wanted any arrangement which would limit the number of tickets available for guests.
Bullitt East was the only one which placed a high priority on having an indoor ceremony. As a result, the Bullitt East Class of 2024 will graduate on Tuesday, May 21, at 7:30 p.m. inside Broadbent Arena.
The other two will gamble on the weather and will utilize the new football stadiums for graduation.
Bullitt Central is slated to graduate at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 17. The rain date would be at Noon on Saturday, May 18, and the third option would be at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 18.
North Bullitt will graduate at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 18. The next option would be at 7 p.m. on Sunday and at 7 p.m. on Monday.
