I will have to admit. I don’t surf around to to many cable channels looking for unusual shows.
I tend to stick to my regular routine. Too drained to spend time and energy looking for something out of the ordinary.
Once in awhile, I’ll fall into watching for a few minutes. Fire Country is one of those shows that I happened to start watching and, if I can remember when it is on, will try to tune in.
There are also shows that I might watch for a few minutes and then wonder why I wasted those precious moments.
For example, what is the deal with that Slap show on TBS?
You can really produce a show where people slap each other?
I mean my guilty pleasure since I can remember is watching wrestling. Yes, I know, it could possibly be scripted. But at least these folks are top athletes and they are willing to go on the road almost 52 weeks a year to perform their craft.
At noon on a Saturday afternoon there wasn’t much better enjoyment than tuning into Lance Russell and Dave Brown for an action packed hour of heroes and villains battling to have their arms raised in victory.
I just stopped long enough to see this new show where I guess the object is to slap the spit out of your opponent.
Men slapping men. Women slapping women.
The commercials showing the slow motion effect of a person’s face being hit is enough for me to ask the simple question -- WHY?
I assume there is money and fame to be made by being the best slapper.
What’s next? The best punch to the belly? The most wicked kick to the groin?
With hundreds and hundreds of channels and 168 hours of programming to fill each week, anything is possible.
That is a real slap in the face.
