This year we are blessed to have an extra day.
It is Leap Year so there will be a Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024.
For those who were born on Feb. 29, this gives them a once-in-a-four-year cycle to actually celebrate their birthday on their actual date of birth.
But have you ever wondered what you would do with that extra day?
We often say that “if God only gave us eight days a week” or “if God only gave us 28 hours in a day.”
But you have an extra day every four years.
What if you devoted that extra day -- whether the feat is actually completed on Feb. 29 -- to something special?
Could you volunteer a day during the year to your local school?
Could you volunteer to go to a nursing home or an assisted living facility to visit with residents, many of whom never have visitors?
What if you called Bernheim Forest and asked what you could do for a day?
The Bullitt County Fair could always use volunteers.
Maybe taking that day to just relax and reflect on your life and the life of others.
Bet the folks at Second Chances wildlife preserve would love to have another set of hands.
Or maybe you take the pay you earn on that day and figure out a charity or charities you might like to assist.
Cherish Leap Day and make it a special one. Bullitt County has many organizations that you could share your time and talents.
Carpe diem. Seize the day.
