LOUISVILLE -- Motorists know the headaches of construction projects. But they also know how much better things are when the work is completed.
According to Morgan Woodrum, public affairs officer for District 5 Department of Transportation, the work on the Zoneton Road bridge is on schedule.
The concrete was poured for the bridge deck on Feb. 29. The project is set for completion on March 25.
The Interstate 65 rehabilitation project is also on schedule.
Woodrum said that the work should be done by fall 2024.
Currently, the southbound lanes have been shifted to the northbound side. Once the weather improves, final paving will be done on the southbound side and then the northbound lanes.
Woodrum warned that there would also be some delays caused as cable barrier repairs are needed, as well as some bridge rehabilitation work.
Weather will also affect the construction process.
Work continues on Highway 44 East near Bullitt East High School. The next phase of improvements will be from the Bardstown Road area to the Spencer County line.
Once the I-65 rehabilitation from the Hardin County line to near the Clermont exit is complete, there is another phase being lined up from that point toward Brooks.
The legislature is currently considering road plans for the next six years. That plan has yet to receive approval.
