  • Collective bargaining not expected to pass

    SHEPHERDSVILLE- On Monday night's agenda, the Shepherdsville City Council will consider the second reading and possible adoption of an ordinance allowing for collective bargaining for police department employees. However, mayor Scott Ellis considers the matter to be a dead issue.

    “We don't need both,” Ellis said of creating a collective bargaining system while still having the civil service intact.

  • Whitehouse looks to help others change the world with semiars

    Brooks resident Sherry Whitehouse wants to change the world. One woman at a time.
    She recently started a business called High Healing LLC, which helps to coach women about life struggles.
    “I realized that this was my passion, my purpose in life,” she said.
    Whitehouse will host her first seminar June 13 at the Courtyard Marriott at 819 Phillips Lane in Louisville from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
    The registration fee is $49 but is free for veterans and for those who want to bring a friend or their daughter.

     FOX CHASE - The City of Fox Chase remains in good shape financially as the council approved its projected budget for the 2013-14 fiscal year beginning July 1.

  • Hillview City Fair continues to grow each year

     Fair is fair when it comes to annual city fairs in Bullitt County.

    One of the newer events, the Hillview City Fair, has become a major gathering in the county's north end. This year's fair takes place June 6-8, at the Hillview Government Center.

    The City Fair features live music, rides, pageants, a car show, a 5K run and even a Civil War reenactment camp. Proceeds benefit the city's Parks and Recreation department and Operation Santa program, along with the Zoneton Trowel Club.

  • Radio issues a critical safety concern

     HILLVIEW – One might think that the most important item on a police officer’s belt is his or her weapon.

         But Hillview police chief Glenn Caple said it is actually an officer’s handheld radio.

         No matter the officer’s location or situation, Caple said the ability to have communication with dispatchers or other law enforcement officials could be a matter of life and death.

  • UPDATE: Constable again faces charge of selling drugs

     (UPDATE 06/04): The case against Clifton Joel Hudson has been sent to the grand jury for possible indictment.

    Hudson is in custody at the Bullitt County Detention Center.

     MOUNT WASHINGTON – With one indictment already hanging over his head, Second District constable Clifton Joel Hudson is now facing another felony charge.

    At around 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Hudson was arrested by the Bullitt County Sheriff’s Office High Intensity Drug Enforcement (HIDE) unit.

  • All smoke, no fire at church

     The Shepherdsville Fire Department responded to a fire alarm sounding at the First Baptist Church after 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

    Shepherdsville fire chief Layne Troutman said a belt on the air conditioning unit on the roof of the church broke and caught fire. The fan of the unit blew smoke into the third floor of the building.

    City police and the Zoneton Fire Department responded to the call.

  • Bullitt County highway cleanup this week

     Volunteers will be out in force next week to summer scrub Bullitt County’s highways. The Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) announces that Adopt-a-Highway Summer Scrub Week is June 2-8.
